Oxmead Cottage (sleeps 6), Lyndhurst

This stylish, modern holiday let is a real gem, right in the heart of buzzing Lyndhurst. Inside the red brick walls is a cottage loaded with character. Each room is beautifully styled, creating a comfy and restful ‘home from home’ vibe. You’re just a few steps from the high street, which is packed with independent shops, tea houses, great pubs and restaurants. Close by attractions include Minstead, Furzey Gardens, The New Forest Reptile Centre and Paultons Park – home of Peppa Pig World, which families with little ones will love.

Bring your partner and your pooch to the New Forest for a budget break away. Set all on one level, this little cabin is just the ticket as a base for exploring the area. There’s a courtyard garden for al fresco dining, and pretty forest walks start right outside the front door. Soft and sandy Highcliffe Beach (which is super dog-friendly all year round) is just three miles away.

Bumble Bee Cottage (sleeps 4) and The Old Chemist (sleeps 5), Burley

These gorgeous cottages are neighbours and can be booked separately or together – perfect for friends, two families, or multi-generation breaks for up to 9 guests in total and four dogs! The cottages are exceptionally pretty and thoughtfully equipped. There’s plenty of outside space to chill in the sun, and during the cooler months, both homes have cosy wood burners to gather around and snuggle. A short stroll from the cottage are a plentiful supply of pubs, tea houses and restaurants to eat and drink. Best of all is the number of the forest’s free-roaming ponies, cattle and donkeys who mooch about Burley‘s main road and village lanes – they are great fun to watch.

Home Farm Cottage (sleeps 4), Beaulieu

Have fun on the farm in this big cottage filled with spacious rooms featuring large picture windows. The cottage is on a working farm (the farmer will be happy to show you around) and surrounded by a lawned garden with views of sheep, goats and ponies with the New Forest’s ancient trees beyond. It’s an easy walk to Beaulieu village’s cobbled high street lined with a dinky collection of shops and places to eat. Beaulieu National Motor Museum is just up the road and if you fancy a bit of an adventure, book an escorted Canadian 3-4 seat canoe tour along Beaulieu River with New Forest Activities.

Pear Tree Cottage (sleeps 6), Lymington

Furry friends with paws are most welcome at Pear Tree Cottage, which is located on the outskirts of the Georgian, New Forest coastal town of Lymington – famous for its marinas, restaurants, independent shops and thriving street market. Inside is super swish, fusing vintage touches and luxury fittings. The owners have put a lot of thought into this large cottage’s design and functionality, which offers a very generous amount of space for 6 guests. In the summer months, sprawl out in the large sunny garden with views on to fields. When the season turns nippy, cosy up in front of a cast iron log burner in the lounge. The open forest or coastline is a quick zip in the car, as are attractions such as Bucklers Hard, Exbury Gardens, The New Forest Wildlife Park and for little ones, make a bee-line to Longdown Activity Farm.
