Thatchby Oak is just a mile from the bustling village of Brockenhurst in the middle of the New Forest. It is one of the very few rentable properties in the area with a private gated swimming pool. The garden is pure joy with a huge expanse of lush green grass surrounded by lofty trees, vivid wildlife and abundant birdsong. Many happy days can be spent lolling in the garden on the plentiful loungers on the south facing sun terrace, or under the cool shade provided by established vines in the relaxation area. There’s also plenty of seating for al fresco dining, and what better place could you be to watch the sun go down before a candle lit dinner under inky black, twinkly skies?
Inside you’ll be equally in raptures with the level of comfort and thoughtfulness of the owners. This sophisticated abode comprises a downstairs cloakroom, an incredibly useful utility/boot room (to save any muddy prints) and a bountiful kitchen leading to a large, elegant dining room. The spacious lounge has TV and entertainment, and is adorned with deeply comfy sofas and chairs. French doors provide enticing views on to the garden and beauty of the open forest, dotted with ponies and wildlife beyond.
For entertainment, you’ll find a full-size table tennis table in the conservatory. In addition, there’s a particularly well equipped, capacious games room with an enormous sofa, pool table, football table, smart TV and PlayStation 4 for the kids and grownups!
Upstairs, every element oozes comfort and style. The master kingsize ensuite bedroom is grand, with views over the garden and forest. The remaining 5 bedrooms are a mix of twins and kingsize beds, 2 are ensuite, the others are serviced by two large family bathrooms. Each dreamy bed is dressed in crisp linens, co-ordinating pillows, luxurious soft furnishings, subtle pastel wallpapers and elegant furniture.
As you’re in such a fabulous location, you can either hire bikes locally or bring your own and store them in the property’s stable. From your front door are walking and cycle routes to enjoy – why not pack a picnic and explore the whimsical scenes around you? Regardless of what time of year you visit, take a gentle jaunt, and you’ll find a serenely peaceful and utterly beautiful spot to call your own.
For supplies, head just a mile into the village. The high street is home to everything you’ll need: butcher, baker, grocer and a plethora of independent shops. Being a thriving and busy village, Brockenhurst has a plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafes.
For the seaside, head south 10 miles or so, and soak up the fun on the fine sandy beaches of Avon and Highcliffe, or go hunting for fossils at Barton on Sea.
You’re also close to the region’s premier attractions of youngster’s family theme park, Paultons – home of Peppa Pig World, Beaulieu motor museum, Exbury Gardens and Marwell Zoo. Further afield is Portsmouth, Stonehenge and countless national trust landmarks, properties and historic houses.
