Shallows Lodge is in the south of the forest, surrounded by dappled woods, birdsong and countryside, yet only five miles from the coast. Very much the epitome of an English country holiday cottage – with the option of days swimming and sunbathing in your very own beach hut.

Shallows Lodge is the recently refurbished North Wing of a larger house. Colour palettes are soft natural hues which enhance the wooden floors. With sublime soft furnishings, eclectic furniture, leather sofas and chunky beds – each adorned with soft mashmallowy bedding, you’ll feel right at home thanks to the warm, friendly vibe this lovely holiday home offers.

The house owners have taken great care to provide lots of thoughtful added touches and mod cons, including a dishwasher, Blu-ray and CD player. There are smart TVs and Netflix in the lounge and all the bedrooms – so there’s plenty of space to get some private ‘me’ time.

The entrance hall is large and convivial, and leads to the master double bedroom, featuring an impressive double sleigh bed. Next door is a generous size single bedroom and cloakroom.  Upstairs, there is a good size family bathroom with large walk-in shower and another double and single bedroom.

The open-plan living area includes a dedicated desk/work station, dining table and chairs, kitchen and two sumptuous leather chesterfield style sofas and foot rest. The whole area is bright, light and filled with sunshine, creating a wonderfully relaxing and sociable space.

Outside, the garden is mainly laid to lawn, surrounded by trees, bushes and summer blooms. Imagine after a day exploring, coming home and uncorking a bottle of your favourite tipple, kicking back and watching the sunset to the sound of bird song – bliss.

There are shops and two pubs, The Red Lion and The Monkey House, serving lovely food within walking distance. The busy Georgian marine town of Lymington, with its Saturday Street market, is just a mile down the road. From Lymington, you can take a day trip to the Isle of Wight, fishing trips and exhilarating RIB rides around the Solent.

Beaulieu, said to be the prettiest village in the forest and gathering point for ponies and donkeys to meet, is a short drive away. The village is home to the world famous National Motor Museum, Palace House  and Abbey. Exbury gardens is also close by and well worth a visit to see stunning displays of flowers, trees and rare plants. For more information on the village of Boldre, click here.
