Curlews is a dreamy abode on one of the most desirable roads in the fashionable, Georgian marine town of Lymington. Perhaps Curlews most wonderful attribute are the views it provides guests overlooking the busy yacht haven and Lymington River with far reaching views of The Isle of Wight – a perfect vantage point to sneak a peek at mariner life from the comfort of your armchair.
Inside is fresh, airy, crisp and modern. Sprinkled with sophisticated seaside styling, think beach cabin fun fused with luxurious home comforts. In the lounge, pale blue sofas are adorned with plump nautical cushions. Elegant ornaments and colourful artwork pose a striking contrast against white walls and large floor to ceiling garden doors, guarded by a pair of funky porthole windows flaunting those captivating views.
A stylish and effortlessly chic kitchen flows in to the sunny garden room. Together they are a blissful blend of practicality and style with mod cons including a large Rangemaster cooker, American style fridge freezer and an all-important wine cooler! There is a social breakfast bar with comfy stools which backs on to a relaxed, informal conservatory inspired garden room – a second living room home to deep billowy sofas, a large flat screen TV and enormous sliding patio doors to a leafy, tranquil and spacious courtyard garden.
A separate dining room seats six around a large honey hued pine table, arranged on a cobalt blue carpet. There’s a large bookcase crammed with a library of novels, fiction and reference books for guests to use. Guest can use a downstairs cloak room and there’s a substantial family bathroom upstairs. The family bathroom offers heaps of room and features a large walk in shower and separate bath.
A bright and airy twin bedroom can be made in to a zip link double, and shares the same enchanting views as the lounge for gazing on to river and boats. The second double flaunts a gorgeous bold brass bed, and the third bedroom is another capacious double with dual aspect scenic windows and views over the garden and river – this bedroom comes with a roomy ensuite shower room.
Curlews south-west facing garden is blissful. Saying it’s a courtyard isn’t really doing it justice. It’s quite substantial in size, beautifully designed, perfectly landscaped and fully paved. The borders are heavily planted with lush trees, bushes, palms and grasses, mingled with large tubs and pots adding splashes of colour. Venture to the end of the garden and you’ll find a big surprise! Here you’ll find a chic and substantial wooden summer house – a perfect pad for the kids to retreat? There’s no slumming it here, it’s well furnished with stripped floors, tables, chairs and chunky sofa. There are plenty of spots within the garden to settle down on the plentiful outdoor furniture to relax with a good book. Or, cook up a storm on the BBQ and partake in some ‘feel good’ al fresco dining with a bottle of award winning wine from the nearby vineyard at Setley Ridge.
You’ll be spoilt for choice when deciding what to see and do. Each day can be an adventure when staying at Curlews. Dip your toes in to mariner life and hop aboard a fishing trip or take the ferry from the harbour for a day trip to the Isle of Wight. If you really love to be on the water, you can hire a canoe or kayak or maybe learn how to paddle board? And remember, you’re only short drive to open New Forest park land, where guests can selfie with the famous free roaming ponies, donkeys and cattle.
Staying close to home, it’s a short walk to Lymington Sea Water Baths – a large outdoor swimming pool reputed to be the oldest in the UK. Toddle along the road to Lymington Quay and enjoy a cup of frothy coffee as you people watch. From the quay, take a walk up the cobbled street to the high street which is teeming with independent shops, boutiques pubs, cafés and eateries – Lymington has some fantastic places to eat.
