Remnants is a spacious, luxury sanctuary for 8 guests in the pretty village of Redlynch to the north of the New Forest National Park. The Cathedral city of Salisbury with its boutique shops and markets is just eight miles away, and the soft sandy beaches of Highcliffe is only a 23 mile drive. Plus with two double bedrooms on the ground floor, it’s an excellent choice for multi-generation friends and families.
Inside this historic cottage, there’s plenty of character with exposed heavy beams, wonky walls and undulating ceilings. It’s packed with elegance, honing a comfortable and relaxing retreat. Having been recently refurbished, the owners have been thoughtful to offer guests heaps of mod cons and considerate touches, which have been praised in the many positive reviews of this New Forest holiday home.
The lounge boasts a large inglenook fireplace completed by a handsome electric ‘cast iron’ fire. Under chunky beams are plush and comfortable sofas, and a 42” TV with BT ‘Youview package’, a DVD player and selection of DVD’s. As the hub of the home, the Kitchen and dining areas are large and inviting. Partly set in the newest addition of the cottage, high vaulted ceilings and plentiful windows allow sunlight to pour in, creating a bright, spacious place to gather. The kitchen itself embraces a modern, country chic vibe with appliances to inspire happy meals times. Think Range cooker, induction hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, coffee maker and collection of cafetieres. The utility room offers the convenience of a washing machine, tumble dryer and an additional fridge. Off the utility room is a wet room with the comfort of underfloor heating, a shower (great for muddy paws if you’re bringing your pooch!) and a downstairs loo.
Remnants also offers two beautifully appointed ground floor king size bedrooms, created with lashings of elegant glamour and luxurious bed linens. One has a stunning double walk-in shower, underfloor heating, WC and his and hers wash basins.
There are two sets of stairs with child safety gates top and bottom leading to the top floor. Here, you’ll find two further bedrooms, each with a fresh, monochrome private bathroom. Both bedrooms come with the flexibility of zip link beds which can be made into a king size or twin beds (there’s also a handy additional day bed in one of the rooms) and guests have the option of the bedrooms to be interconnected.
Outside the garden is surrounded by mighty trees and is just as whimsical as the cottage. Large lawns are interspersed in the fenced half acre of grounds and sprinkled with colourful blooms, with a cute pastel wooden playhouse for the little ones. A pergola hugs one corner of this quintessentially English garden, providing a striking focal point – a perfect spot to gather with drinks as the sun goes down. A good size gas barbeque stands on a separate patio area closer to the cottage kitchen, along with an eight seat rattan table and chairs and huge parasol.
Redlynch is a tranquil village with friendly locals and a fabulous pub for dining out, only a couple of minutes’ walk away from Remnants. If you prefer to eat at home, pop into one of the local take-a-ways which are also a short stroll away. It’s a mile to the post office and a couple of minutes’ drive to the nearest shop for well stocked convenience stores in the neighbouring villages of Downton and Woodfalls.
Remnants is a wonderful holiday cottage in Redlynch, exuding warmth, charisma and comfort in equal measures. From here you can relish all the fun exploring the New Forest and adjacent coastline, along with memory making days out at top attractions such as Beaulieu Motor Museum, Paultons Park – home of Peppa Pig World and the New Forest Wildlife Park. Easy day trips further afield include Stonehenge, The Isle of Wight, Bournemouth, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Mudeford Spit – where pastel coloured beach huts are valued at £300k!
