Coastal Cottages for Winter Breaks

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go to the beach. Throw caution to the wind and ditch those doubts, because the coastline around the New Forest National Park is simply wonderful. Come to this gorgeous pocket of England for a fantastic winter break on the coast which has spectacular views across Christchurch Bay; from the Isle of Wight all the way to Old Harry’s Rocks jutting out from the ancient Purbecks.

There are coastal walks aplenty along clifftop paths, through nature reserves and along sandy and pebble beaches. Pack a flask of soup, some crusty rolls and a blanket and stop for lunch along the way to watch waves crashing into the shore, churning the pebbles in frothy foam. Just because you aren’t in a swimsuit doesn’t mean you can’t build sandcastles. Go beach-combing and fossil hunting, which are especially good after a dramatic winter storm.

If you have a pet dog, bring them as most of the beaches are open to dogs on and off their leads from October to May, and they’ll love scampering about in the sand– see our dog-friendly cottages.

The coastlines and beaches around the New Forest are incredibly beautiful with pleated raw cliffs, rugged groynes, and spectacular stretches of fine golden sand. Take strolls in sea-salty air and warm up with a tasty meal and a drink at one of the coastline’s many pubs with cosy log fires. There are also plenty of fabulous restaurants, cafes and takeaways if you’d prefer to head home to your cottage, sprawl out in your PJ’s and relax in the knowledge that there’s no call for last orders.
