There are three stylish reception rooms downstairs. The sitting room to the front of the cottage is filled with period pieces and an alcove teeming with books and objet d’art. In front of the period tiled fireplace stands two large pale blue chairs, and a squishy leather sofa setting the stage for evenings to discuss the day’s adventures.

Quintessential cottage charm continues in the family/dining room. The exposed brick inglenook fireplace is home to a cosy log burner. A chunky Victorian pine table and hand-painted dresser echoes the soft muted, warm grey walls and natural fibre rug which sits on wooden floors. The feel of the room is welcoming, yet quirkily chic, with industrial style lighting and white louvre shutters, added to which the thoughtful owners have provided a 55” UHD Curved Smart TV and sound system.

From the family/dining room you enter an elegant galley style kitchen. The fresh, white worktop and units are offset against dark grey flagstone floor tiles and pewter handles. ‘Small is beautiful’ is key here, as this is a true cooks kitchen where high-end appliances such as an induction hob, coffee machine and Kitchen Aid make an appearance.

There’s a ground floor cloakroom, then a garden room, which is flooded with light from the French doors, wall window and huge ceiling window dome. The room is warm and toasty even on the coldest of days thanks to underfloor heating, making this the perfect spot to sit with a book or a coffee. In the summer months fling open the doors and head out to the south-west facing walled garden.

Upstairs at Victory Cottage are two big, bright and spacious bedrooms. Guests are in for a treat sleeping in luxurious hand-made king size beds from artisan bed and mattress makers, Button and Sprung. Plump pillows, crisp, white bedding and muted throws create a peaceful space to relax and unwind so you can wake up refreshed and ready for the next day’s adventures.

Serving the two bedrooms is a large and striking monochrome bathroom, with a black Wenge Claridge vanity cabinet, walk-in shower, separate bath, high-level cistern WC and underfloor heating.

The serene little garden is set over three levels, and is full of colourful blooms. The imaginative and inspired planting offers well stocked borders, pretty flowers and the choice of dabbled shade and full sunlight. There’s secure storage for bikes and water sports equipment, and a handy garden cabin to head for some ‘me time’ or for children to make a den and play games on the large table. The joys of this little cottage are that it is as inviting outside as it is in. Head up the steps with a mug of tea, glass of swine or a full meal to dine under the stars, which with the pretty garden lighting, creates a really magical setting.

A stay at Victory Cottage also means you’re never more than a couple of minutes’ walk from somewhere great to eat or shop for provisions. Lymington’s wonderful high street teeming with independent shops and eateries is at the end of the road. Likewise, the cobbled street to Lymington Quay for people watching, pubs, shops, fishing trips, sailing lessons and day trips to the Isle of Wight is a similar distance. The open New Forest and its famous wildlife and free roaming ponies is a quick zip in the car. Nearby attractions include Beaulieu – for the Palace House, Abbey and world famous Motor Museum. Exbury Gardens for beautiful blooms and steam railway and Hurst Castle – King Henry VIII’s much extended coast fortress is at Milford on Sea. The popular golden, sandy beaches of Christchurch and Bournemouth are to the west, and Maritime cities of Portsmouth and Southampton are less than an hour’s drive to the east.
