Nomansland

A holiday in Nomansland is just the ticket for guests looking for a relaxing and picture-perfect holiday in the New Forest. Surrounded by pockets of dappled woodland, streams, and rolling hills, Nomansland has all the ingredients for walking and cycling adventures, exploring the beautiful landscapes of the northern New Forest.

Nomansland is frequented by the National Park’s free-roaming ponies, donkeys, and cattle, who often gather on the village green overlooked by the hugely popular Lamb Inn pub and a French restaurant called Mirabelles, which is well-known all over the forest for its delicious offerings. For picnics and something quick for tea, there are village stores in the neighbouring villages of Landford and Plaitford, and for a big shop head to Totton (10 miles) for a choice of large supermarkets.

Our holiday cottages in Nomansland offer countryside living that is still close to amenities and attractions for easy days out and adventures for all ages. It’s a quick jaunt in the car to Longdown Activity Farm and the UK’s favourite family theme park, Paultons Park – home of Peppa Pig World, which is always a big hit with younger family members. A little further on are The New Forest Wildlife Park, Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Furzey Gardens and Mottisfont Abbey.  And don’t forget, as the New Forest is on the south coast, it’s only 40 minutes to Lepe Country Park with its sandy beach and views across to the Isle of Wight.

Delicious food. All made very welcome, from OAPs to baby and in between!

April 2024

We went for dinner here whilst staying at Westwinds Annexe (from which it is walking distance). We enjoyed it, there was a lot of choice and a good atmosphere and we would gladly return. Pub has a great outlook onto the village green with the New Forest ponies and donkeys roaming about.

April 2024

We only went with the family for a drink but found the staff very helpful. As we had children with us we sat in the garden which probably could have been a bit nicer but did not spoil anything.

April 2022

A lovely country pub serving excellent food and good wine with great service, in a beautiful location with lots of forest walks right on the doorstep.

November 2021

We had a really lovely evening at The Lamb. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful while maintaining Covid safety. The food arrived nicely presented and was delicious. There was plenty of space around our table, we didn't feel hemmed in and our dog could fit comfortably under the table, yet we felt part of a happy group of diners. Thank you.

Superb Sunday Lunch with family and 1 year old. Well appointed, and attentive staff

September 2021

Great venue for food and very polite staff

June 2021

We had an amazing meal at the Rockingham Arms. The staff were so lovely and helpful - we had booked a table hoping our toddler would be fast asleep in her pushchair however she was wide awake! The staff were amazing and actually found a space for us away from everyone else where we could try and get her to sleep and also enjoy our meal. Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough.

Wonderful service, friendly to children, impeccably decorated and maintained, and delicious food. Easily our best meal in the forest.

Absolutely fabulous theme park - so clean, well laid out, plenty of staff, all helpful and friendly, great rides for the little ones, plenty of places to eat and drink and beautiful gardens. We will definitely visit again when next in the New Forest.

April 2022

Good entertainment for kids, so much to see and do, a good day out

August 2021

Our 2 year old absolutely loved Peppa world. I have to say I wasn’t sure what to expect but we really enjoyed it too! Plenty of rides for the little ones, well laid out with affordable eating options and plenty of toilets and baby change facilities too. Can imagine it gets very busy in the school holidays but we were slightly out of season so it was great!

September 2019

Our two year old thought it was the best thing ever, and is still exciting about visiting Peppa Pig's house and meeting his heroes. We thought that the rest of the park was more exciting (and shorter queues.) Many of the rides closed much later than the advertised closing time - so by staying later we got more time in the park and also avoided the worst of the queues to get out.

February 2024

We enjoyed Furzey gardens whilst staying at house for Christmas. The tinsel fairy tree trail was great , did it 3 times just to see if any fairies were at home. We liked the sculptures and quirky art amongst the garden. We will come again in may to see rhododendron in full bloom.

Wonderful for all ages. The autumn colours were marvellous in the late October sunshine and the entertainment for young children was superb.

Barton on Sea

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(16 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

Nice beach with good facilities

April 2023

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

September 2022

Beautiful beach with views to The Isle of Wight. Good for swimming, picnics and walking. Very good car parking and public toilets. Lots of good places to eat and drink either next to the beach or in the village, a short walk away

July 2022

A proper gem. Great location for the new forest. The village is great and was only a short walk from our house. Not too busy or full of holiday makers. We will be back.

October 2021

One of my favourite places

July 2021

Good place to go if you have a buggy or wheelchair as there is a tarmac path along the top of the cliffs with great views of the Needles, plenty of parking and a kiosk serving refreshments.

September 2020

Lovely village with adequate shops on a very pretty green.

September 2019

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

June 2019

Love Milford on Sea so old fashioned hasn't changed much since I use go as a child in the 1960/70s

April 2019

We had an amazing relaxing week in this great house. The children loved seeing all the animals on the common and all the walks on our doorstep. We look forward to returning.

January 2024

We had a wonderful Christmas holiday at Holly House. Thank you for the wine and biscuit treats. We had a great time on the walks we did to Pipers Wait and Eyeworth Pond. The property was Incredibly cosy and had everything we needed. We look forward to returning in the near future.

September 2023

Lovely property, very well equipped, lovely garden and a nice quiet location.

August 2023

We had a great stay at Holly House. Kevin sent us an email suggesting places to eat and emailed straight back when we had a query at the property. I also left something behind at the end of the holiday and he got in touch and sent it back to me straightaway. The property is comfy, nicely decorated, had all the utensils we needed. We were left with biscuits, wine and milk and a selection of pods for the nesspreso machine. There was washing up liquid, washing machine tablets, tea towels and oven gloves which were a bonus as we've stayed at some properties where these aren't supplied! The village of Normansland is right in the forest with roaming ponies just up the road. We had a lovely meal at the Lamb and travelled to lots of easy to reach towns nearby, even a trip to Bournemouth beach. Would definitely recommend staying here. The only downside to our holiday was the rainy weather!

August 2023

Lovely family holiday from different parts of the country. Lots of walks from the house through the forest. Veg barn by the recreation ground has fantastic cakes, chutneys and extremely friendly. The birthday cake they made for our Granddaughter with 24 hours notice was superb. Fantastic house.

August 2023

In Holly House, we found delight, New Forest's charm, warm and bright. At Bournemouth beach, where waves did play, Our memories there, will forever stay. Moors Valley park, is natures grace. Each step, each climb, a wonder to embrace. The theme park thrills, excitement soared, Paulton's Park dino rollercoasters roared. Through rain-soaked paths, we strolled for miles, Ponies, cows and deer, making the treks worthwhile. Thank you for holiday moments we'll forever hold, In Holly House, were memories unfold.

August 2023

Very much

June 2023

April 2023 Holly House definitely sets a very high standard for a holiday let. Clean, bright and well stocked. Safe garden so no need to worry about the pooch. We managed to walk 70m +, mostly from the door! We enjoyed a morning boat ride on the Beaulieu River - superb birding, even a cheeky seal - organised via Wild New Forest, guided by Marcus Ward. Keyhaven Marshes was also a highlight. The Lamb and Le Frog were excellent, what a treat to be able to leave the car at home. The local scenery is fantastic - woods, heath and hills. Pipers Wait affords a 360 view - well worth a look. A big thank you to the Holly House team.

June 2023

26th May 2023 We have had a fabulous week staying at Holly House, thank you. We are a family of three generations and a dog and have found everything we need here. The house is clean, everything works as it should and also looks stylish! Going on holiday with a two year old and a baby of three months is challenging but this house was an excellent home for us for the week. We really enjoyed the garden its beautiful. Many thanks.

May 2023

Everything we needed seemed to be provided, great attention to detail. Lovely house lovely garden

May 2023

HH was an excellent property. Very clean, well stocked, secure garden, comfy bed and lots of hot water. The owners were very helpful prior to and during our stay. Walks from the door inc an excellent local pub and restaurant. The only reason I have downgraded the location is that HH is on a street and therefore surrounded by property but only on 3 sides. We would usually prefer a more secluded plot eg. Church Cottage, Burley. Would highly recommend HH.

April 2023

Lovely house in a quiet village & well located between Salisbury & Southampton for exploring New Forest and coast. Spacious and relaxing with very comfortable chairs and beds and fully equipped kitchen. EV charger great as limited public charging options. Good for family & friends with fully enclosed garden for dog and nearby walks to explore.

October 2022

Very well equipped Cottage every thing we needed and more. Fantastic secure garden for the dogs. Lovely location with easy local walks.

September 2022

Unrivalled two week stay. Perfect location for the New Forest and surrounds. Holly House was 'home from home'. The house was brilliant, clean, comfortable and 'top notch'. Everything you could wish for was provided. The garden was a delight, both during the day and evenings, with lovely lighting, a water feature and a pond. So secure for dogs to enjoy as well. Highly recommended. We would choose to stay again without hesitation, if the opportunity/requirement arises. Thank You.

September 2022

Holly House was absolutely wonderful, the best place we have stayed in many many years of cottage holidays. Standard of furnishing and cleanliness was outstanding and so nice to have a lovely well maintained garden. Text from Kevin, the owner, we received on arrival, checking everything was okay, was much appreciated. We would not hesitate to return and would be more than happy to recommend Holly House to anyone. Special thanks to Kevin, the housekeeper and gardener for all their hard work in helping us have a wonderful holiday.

August 2022

Well appointed property. Homely feel, lovely big quiet garden to relax. Good Location to explore the quieter Northern side of the New Forest and most other places within 30 minutes drive including the coast. Lots of dog walks available within walking distance of the property and even more within a 10 minute drive. Plenty of nice pubs for food. Would happily stay again.

July 2022

From the minute we arrived at Holly House we felt at home. The house is beautifully finished with all the comforts of home. We 've had some lovely walks straight from the house and did a couple further afield too. The Lamb became our second home, and we ate extremely well there. My husband ordered a 10oz steak one night, and it was one of the best he's ever eaten. The staff and ambience were great all week. The staff made us feel very welcome. We've stayed in many different 'holiday homes' over the years but Holly House is going to be a hard act to follow.... Comfortable beds, lots of room and the conservatory on a sunny morning, nowhere nicer for early morning cup of tea. Hope to return again soon. Thank you.

July 2022

We have had a lovely, relaxing week at Holly House. We appreciated all the thoughtful little touches which have made our stay delightful. In all the years we have spent holidaying with our dogs, the Holly garden is the most outstanding! Fully enclosed and safe, with no doggy hazards! The lawn was mown and the flowerbeds well maintained. We have enjoyed sitting by the pond listening to the bubbling water and wished we had installed a water feature years ago! We echo other comments about great walks. A big thank you to the owners for all the love and care you have put into Holly House and shared with us. Also a big thank you to the cleaning team, the house was beautifully presented.

Holly House is the perfect place for a family holiday. The house is large and spacious, the location is quiet and close to everything, and has everything you might need. Communication was clear and easy.

April 2022

We had a wonderful stay at Holly House. The property and position were exactly what we needed and also only an hour from home. Any questions we had for Kevin were always responded to in a matter of minutes.

The cottage is great, and well equipped with everything you need. We loved it, especially the comfy beds and crisp clean white cotton bed linen. It’s a great forest location too, with beautiful walks and a good pub right on the doorstep. We definitely recommend Holly House!

Contact from the owner was appreciated. The property was very clean. The provision of milk, wine, kitchen store cupboard ingredients, cling film & foil, dishwasher & laundry tablets, tissues etc. made a really positive difference to our enjoyment of our stay at Holly House.

October 2021

Before our holiday we had a quick welcome call from the owner checking we knew the location of the key-safe and where to find the Wi-Fi code. Also recommending some dog friendly eateries and places to visit. On our arrival Holly House looked pristine, crisply clean, light and airy. Thank you to the excellent cleaning team. Thanks for the welcome goodies and the well organised and thorough (but not overwhelming) information file. We enjoyed the descriptions of the walks, with the photos including a little white dog, clear maps and postcodes. We particularly enjoyed Pipers Wait. The house was spacious and pleasing, everything we could need was thoughtfully provided – even umbrellas and a long handled shoe horn by the front door. Personally I was impressed by the two refrigerators, quite often there is only one tiny one. The efficient heating was needed as, although we had some beautifully sunny days, it was cold in the evenings. The easy to use boosters for the heaters in the conservatory were quick to make it toasty warm. We enjoyed the dog secure and colourful garden with it's pretty dahlias, fuchsias, roses and autumn bedding. The colour change lights in the fish pond were a nice touch, as were the festoon of little solar lights along the fence. Luxury bedding and comfy beds added to our enjoyment. We can thoroughly recommend Holly House.

August 2021

Thank you for letting us use your house during our week in the New Forest. The house was very clean on arrival, with everything laid out was very easy to use. The location of the house in Nomansland is situated well to explore the local areas. We have been to Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Limington, Burley, Beaulieu, Bucklers Hard, Fritham and the New Forest Wildlife Park. We brought our bikes and went on a couple of cycle routes, and we used the routes set out by Cyle Experience via their app. Lots of routes go from Brockenhurst, but there are lots of routes in the area. We would definitely return to the area and Holly House!

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. Just what we needed after the year everyone has had. The house itself has been beautifully decorated, everything has been thought of for you even down to the wash capsules! We felt at home here. The location was perfectly quiet with easy access to the New Forest walks and trails such as pipers wait and janesmoore pond. Local pubs such as the lamb inn, Rockingham arms, and the green dragon, are certainly worth a visit. We found neighbouring areas easy to navigate, such as Portsmouth, Bath, Longleat, Lulworth Cove/ Durdle Door and Bournemouth. Our family have really enjoyed our stay here and we look forward to returning to explore New Forest even more.

Thank you for having us to be your first guests. We've thoroughly enjoyed our stay and absolutely love Nomansland. The Lamb Inn is a wonderful place for drinks and food, as is Le Frog! Holly House provided absolutely everything we needed and felt at home straight away. It's perfectly situated with lovely walks and access to some great towns and places to visit. We'd definitely return to Holly House and Nomansland.
