Ringwood Holiday Cottages - Holidays Ringwood
Ringwood
Ringwood is one of the most popular towns in Hampshire and is a thriving community with excellent amenities and transport links to the rest of the south of England. This pretty town also has a reputation as being one of the most expensive places to live in England, so visitors can be certain that Ringwood holiday cottages are of an exceptionally high standard. Its location on the western fringes of the New Forest make it an ideal place from which to explore both the New Forest and the countryside to the west of the county, providing a diverse and rich region for walkers and hikers to discover.
A bloody history
Ringwood began life as Regnewood and was listed in the Domesday Book as Rincewed, meaning the wood of the Regni, the name of an ancient local tribe. It has strong links with the English Civil War, when after the Battle of Sedgemoor on 6 July 1685, James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth was arrested nearby and held prisoner in Ringwood. After the bloody revolution, Ringwood once again settled back into rural life, thriving through the centuries to become a vibrant and busy market town today.
Ringwood holidays let you discover the history and diversity of this popular town whilst still providing access to the wide-open spaces of the New Forest right on your doorstep. Ringwood holiday cottages are ideal for families who want plenty to see and do to keep the younger members happy, while smaller cottages provide a perfect romantic retreat for couples looking to get away from the pressures of modern life for a few days.
A real village atmosphere
Throughout the year there are festivals and events across the town, from fetes and fairs through to concerts and theatrical productions. In September the town holds its annual carnival, and you can plan your Ringwood holidays to coincide with many of these events all year round. Despite being a busy town, Ringwood still has a real village atmosphere, guaranteeing a warm welcome for visitors as well as plenty to see and do.
