The bright and airy bungalow is home to original artwork and is finished to a beautiful standard throughout. The open plan living room overlooks the rear garden with French doors opening out onto the private paved space with tucked away seating area and fire pit for those chillier evenings. In the lounge area, the seating is centred around a cosy electric fire, and the dining kitchen is well equipped for self-catering during your stay. The master bedroom has an en suite shower room, and two further bedrooms benefit from a luxury family bathroom.

The village of Hordle is situated between the Solent coast and the New Forest National Park, and is bordered by the coastal sailing town of Lymington and the more modern New Milton. Both market towns offer a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. There are several beaches within a short drive, and the beautiful New Forest National Park is close by, with miles of heathland to explore - enjoy walking, cycling or horse riding amongst the free-roaming ponies, cattle and donkeys. Other local attractions include the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum, Beaulieu Abbey and National Motor Museum, Hurst Castle and Lymington Sea Water Swimming Baths, with inflatable course, paddle board and kayak hire.

Entrance into hallway with doors to all rooms.

Lounge area with comfortable seating, coal-effect electric fire, Smart TV and French doors opening into rear garden.

Bedroom 3 with single (3ft) bed and trundle bed under, hanging rail.
Family bathroom with bath and shower over, basin, WC and heated towel rail.
Utility room accessed through back garden with washing machine and tumble drier.

The paved and gravel rear garden is fully enclosed and has a seating area with outdoor furniture for al fresco meals. There is also a fire pit for those chillier evenings.

The charming village of Hordle lies on the southern fringes of the New Forest, close to the sparkling shores of the Solent.

The name Hordle derives from ‘hoard hill’ - ‘hordhyll’ in Old English - which means ‘treasure hill’, an origin that continues to excite local metal detectorists, no doubt spurred on by the unearthing of a 4th Century Roman coin in one of the villager’s back gardens.

Hordle plays host to one of Hampshire’s most beautiful ornamental gardens, Apple Court Garden & Nursery; a ‘plant lover’s paradise’ created more than thirty years ago in the abandoned walled kitchen garden of Yeatton House. This leafy corner of Hampshire is beloved for its scenic walks and picnic spots, none more so than the community woodland on Golden Hill, maintained by the parish since the 1920s. The family run fisheries at Hordle Lakes is the perfect haunt for anglers; a collection of seven spring fed lakes where you can while away the hours in the dappled shade of a hornbeam waiting for the carp to nibble.

Not far from the centre of the village stands the delightful mock Tudor façade of the Three Bells inn, a lovely place to stop for a generous pub lunch. The village is also served by a small parade of shops on Stopples Lane, ideal for those last-minute conveniences. Danestream Farm Shop on Sway Road, run by traditional master butchers, and Naked Jam on Silver Street, producers of award-winning jams and conserves, are bound to tickle your taste buds if you’re a lover of artisan foods and homegrown delicacies. There’s also a post office, takeaway, pharmacy and petrol station.

Hordle boasts a busy diary of events, which includes its highly imaginative scarecrow competition, various arts and crafts exhibitions and its ever-popular summer fair. The village also has a long list of clubs, everything from péntaque and cricket to gardening and Tai Chi.

Be enticed by our growing list of Hordle holiday cottages set in the heart of the New Forest.

A pleasant treat and good value for those on a budget. The staff were friendly and accommodating for those with food intolerances and happily moved the menu around to match suitability. There is a petrol station next door reasonably priced so that you can fill up ready for the next adventure.

Excellent - both in terms of location and quality of food

May 2022

SUPERB. Beautiful setting, very very good service and excellent food. My wife is Gluten intolerant and they were extremely knowledgable and helpful. Highly recommend.

June 2021

Sat outside and had a superb meal. Service and covid safety best in class. Staff genuinely helpful and friendly not scripted. Highly recommend.

April 2021

We visited the excellent Gordleton Mill on our recent holiday to the New Forest. All Covid-secure measures had been taken, the staff friendly and welcoming and the food delicious. We will definitely return when in the area.

November 2020

We recently enjoyed Sunday lunch at The Mill with friends. Despite arriving early we were made to feel very welcome choosing to be taken to our table on arrival of the whole group. The food was amazing and of ample portion size - the roast beef in particular melted in the mouth. There was a good choice of desserts - the cheesecake and also the crème brulee can be recommended. The live music added ambience to the experience without infringing on the conversation. The staff were polite, friendly and attentive. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Mill and would certainly return when holidaying in the area in the future.

Really nice place, gardens are good fun with the kids and something different that's free... meal was really nice, servers really friendly, although we did have to chase a couple of things, thoroughly enjoyable lunch

Food we got was lovely but hadn't much available on their menu unless you pre-ordered.

August 2021

Think this has changed hands recently and the new owners hadn't stocked up so small menu and had run out of several things hopefully will improve

July 2021

The Crown pub unfortunately had problems with their fridges so food wasn't served early in the week. We did however eat there at the end of our week. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly.

July 2021

Loved this pub, we went for a Sunday lunch and were very accommodating for us. Loved the food and went back again later in the week for a spontaneous lunch, again same level of superb service. Would highly recommend.

June 2018

Good food and friendly, shame about opening hours still being limited and shutting early in the evening.

We were disappointed that it is no longer open.

June 2023

as guests of Apple court house the gardens were available for us to browse- however, one day we found out someone had opened the gats and entered the gardens for themselves arguing that they had driven from Devon. Wrong time of year to get the advantage of the beauty but could visualise the attraction

Good selection of healthy plants for sale.

Barton on Sea
(3 miles)

(2)

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

Lovely sea walk within 15 minutes of the cottage.

March 2024

A lovely place to stay. So much to see and do locally and within easy reach.

August 2023

Milford on Sea is a very quintessential English village which has retained all its charm. The seafront is a delight to stroll along and The Needles Eye Cafe produces lovely coffee and lunches which is well worth a visit. A walk around Sturt Pond is also enjoyable and through to the village.

June 2023

Lovely quiet location for a beach walk. Great for watching the sea and waves without the crowds.

June 2023

Brilliant beach.

September 2022

Beautiful beach with views to The Isle of Wight. Good for swimming, picnics and walking. Very good car parking and public toilets. Lots of good places to eat and drink either next to the beach or in the village, a short walk away

July 2022

A proper gem. Great location for the new forest. The village is great and was only a short walk from our house. Not too busy or full of holiday makers. We will be back.

October 2021

One of my favourite places

July 2021

Good place to go if you have a buggy or wheelchair as there is a tarmac path along the top of the cliffs with great views of the Needles, plenty of parking and a kiosk serving refreshments.

September 2020

Lovely village with adequate shops on a very pretty green.

September 2019

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

June 2019

Love Milford on Sea so old fashioned hasn't changed much since I use go as a child in the 1960/70s

April 2019

great walking area, small cafe-the needles, children climbing play park- crashing waves over stoned beach

March 2019

Great for a dog walk along the spit to Hurst Castle. Needles Eye cafe is a welcome break, quite good food but very busy and a bit basic.

December 2017

Fantastic sea location with goods pubs, shops etc

November 2017

Lovely village, plenty of shops and places to eat - no post office though.

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(4 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

Avon Beach

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all.  For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months.  This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Nice beach with good facilities

April 2023

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

Brilliantly situated for visiting all areas of the beautiful New Forest, the coastline and everywhere in between. The house had everything I could possibly have needed and always such a bonus to find comfy beds, heaven. Great to stay where dogs are welcomed too. The tiled flooring throughout was just perfect for cool naps during this incredible heatwave. He’s even put a request in for this at home now!!
