It would be hard to find a more idyllic setting than the peaceful hamlet of East End on the leafy southern fringes of the New Forest. Lying within the ancient parish boundaries of Boldre, the name East End originates from the historic ‘East End Bridge’ which was at one time considered the most easterly landmark in the parliamentary borough of Lymington.

The bridge spans the gentle waterway known as Crockford Stream; a gravel-bedded beck fed by the boggy springs of Beaulieu Common, an area considered one of Britain’s foremost dragonfly sites. The stream feeds into Sowley Pond, part of the west Solent marshlands and safe haven for a variety of surface feeding and diving ducks. It was the monks of Beaulieu Abbey who formed the pond by damming Crockford Stream to create a fishery, although now it’s a popular spot to throw down a rug and tuck into a picnic.

The hamlet is served by the delightful East End Arms, a traditional country pub with a sumptuous menu and local ales on tap. The inn was bought in 1990 by John Illsley, bass guitarist of rock band Dire Straits, in an effort to preserve it for the local community. The neighbouring village of East Boldre lies within easy driving distance, and also has its own characterful pub, The Turfcutters Arms, plus a post office and local stores.

Also close by is the illustrious seaport of Lymington with its sparkling marinas and bustling Georgian fore street, home to a vibrant sailing community. Here, lining the historic cobbled streets, you’ll find artisan shops, galleries, boutiques, cafés, bistros and tearooms, plus a popular weekly market. Take a stroll to the bandstand gardens to listen to some summer jazz or enjoy a dip in Lymington’s 18th century saltwater sea baths.

When you holiday in East End you’ll be surrounded by leafy trails and meandering cycle paths, providing the perfect opportunity to go off the beaten track and exercise your right to roam. You’ll find plenty of outdoor activities in the New Forest to help keep the whole family occupied, from archery and bushcraft to pony trekking and wildlife safaris. If you’re looking for life on the ocean wave, the majestic Solent shores are only a short journey away.

Great activity, kids loved it! Harder than it looks.

August 2021

Did paddle boarding here, a great safe place to give it a try.

August 2021

We had a great time on the inflatables one morning. My son loved it! Friendly staff and good to hire wet suits.

August 2021

Planning to go there as looked good with all the fun equipment you could hire but found the cost for a family of six (two adults, four children) too expensive so did not go after all.

This is a must for everyone, especially for teenagers who love a challenge. We left our two on the assault course for 2 hours whilst we wandered the salt marshes on the Solent Way nearby. The ice cream kiosk next to the baths is value for money too and sells the local ice cream with generous portions.

Brilliant place loved it although water was bracing

August 2023

We spent an afternoon there and the children enjoyed the inflatables. The weather was good. Changing rooms not clearly signed though.

August 2023

We swam here pretty much every morning of our stay that it was open. Good value for general swimming - the more expensive inflatables course looked like great fun but we didn't try it ourselves. Such a good way to start the day, and a great facility for the town as there's no beach. Would have been even better if it opened earlier or later in the day.

September 2023

Wonderful 1833 pool - I preferred the 20 degree temperature to the stifling 30 degree in the Leisure Centre. Very friendly staff. The most spacious pool I've swum in anywhere. Swam here most days £4.00 for two hours a bargain.
